Freedom is wonderful, especially when you have a creative mind. It’s what the Frame modules offer. They resemble square boxes and can either be open or closed and they can be combined in a variety of ways to create complex storage units or to complement existing units. The possibilities are endless, especially taking into consideration that the modules come in a variety of sizes, finishes and colors. They may very well offer the perfect solution for spaces that are difficult to furnish or that need some spark and character.
Elegant living rooms display fine design without appearing flashy. And it’s harder than it sounds. This living room in the home of Washington, D.C., designer Skip Sroka reaches the pinnacle of elegant traditional design with gentle curves on the window treatments and furniture. Both chairs and the sofa have beautifully rolled arms as well as subtle curves at the back. The windows are adorned with curved Roman shades in a damask tone-on-tone that underlie simple pleated silk panels. All together, the curves convey a shapely beauty that ties the room together. This is the essence of soft decorating. The coffered ceiling and quiet palette continue the understated charm.
Sometimes simplicity is better than anything too extravagant or complicated. The Shine unit is a pretty good example, with its basic geometric shape and straight-forward structure. It has four doors highlighted by a contrasting trim in black stained oak. The doors can either have a matt or a glossy finish and the insert can have a black or a bronzed brass finish.
If you've ever tried eating dinner at a coffee table, you know it really isn't possible unless you don't mind being hunched over so far your nose touches your knees. But a single person—or even a pair of people—doesn't need a massive dining room table to suit their needs on a daily basis. If your living room needs to also serve as the dining room, consider a round café table with two chairs. It can easily be pulled out from the wall to fit four in the event of a dinner party just by adding two folding chairs.
