We love the willingness of gardeners to try new things. This year, we predict continued experimentation with new plants and how they are showcased. Following are three ways you can add some botanical variety to your garden or home.
Board-formed concrete is exactly as it sounds. First you frame the wall with textured wooden boards, then pour concrete into the forms. When the boards are stripped off, instead of covering them with stucco or stone, you celebrate the wabi-sabi appeal of the wood grain texture. This type of wall is about two-thirds of the cost of doing a stucco wall, and by using integral color concrete, we can achieve an honest look with a warm color and attractive texture.
For years, outdoor dining spaces have been conveniently located just off the house, near the kitchen. However, we’ve noticed dining spaces being pushed out into the garden. Yes, you’ll have to carry your plate a bit further, but it’s well worth it.
Low growing plants in the front row should be full, look good in a line, and not require too much care. If you view a garden bed from a distance, the height of edging plants can be relatively high—around 2 feet. In beds that are viewed up close, the border plants should be lower than 2 feet.
