The island-style layout places the ovens, ranges, fryers, grills, and other principle cooking equipment together in one module at the center of the kitchen, while other sections of the kitchen are placed on the perimeter walls in the proper order to preserve a circular flow (any section can be the “island” depending on what best suits your needs). This layout is very open and promotes communication and supervision, while leaving plenty of open floor space for easy cleaning. This layout works best in a large kitchen that is square in shape, but can certainly be modified to fit other shapes and sizes.
If you’re not ready for a huge renovation, you can improve the design of your kitchen by installing new countertops or appliances. You can even paint the cabinets yourself to completely change the look of your kitchen.
Set a budget that is comfortable for you, and remember that it will likely be recouped upon resale of your home. It is not recommended that you spend over 50% of your home’s value on a kitchen renovation, though. Spending that much on a bespoke kitchen may make it look flawless and professional, but it is not a smart investment.
Grid motifs are everywhere! Often seen in black, the contrast of a black grid in window muntins, glass cabinet doors, pantry doors, framework surrounding an island or designed into other cabinet sections such as legs, defines form. It’s also a nod to a lite industrial look.
